This website has NOTÂ been created or endorsed by the State of NEW JERSEY, the information below will be useful to many commercial truck owners but will not cover all of the situations encountered when registering as a motor carrier.
You cannot get your truck registered without a Corpcode. To get a corp code you will need to apply to the Motor Vehicle Commision. This cannot be done on a same day basis, go here for more information. CORPCODE
1) INSURANCE: You will have to provide proof of insurance to get your truck registered
2) HEAVY HIGHWAY VEHICLE USE TAX: If your vehicle's gross vehicle weight is over 55,000 lbs. you may be required to pay this tax. You will have to show a reciept that you paid this tax if you are registering your truck 60 days or more after you have bought this truck. 3) APPLICATION for NEW JERSEY vehicle registration. You will also need to fill out this application to get your truck registered. VEHICLE REGISTRATION APPLICATION
4) ASSUMED NAME REGISTRATION. If the name on the account is going to be different than your legal name or you are registering as a corporation you will have to register that name with the When a business name is different from the owner(s) full legal name(s), sole proprietorships and general partnerships to register with the county clerk office where business will be conducted. Corporations, LLCs, LLPs, and limited partnerships register an assumed name as part of their required business filings with the New Jersey Department of State.
5) Business letter on company letterhead stating that this is the first time that the truck is being registered. This letter will have to be notarised.
6) EMPLOYERS IDENTIFICATION NUMBER You will need to obtain an EIN, it will be required when you register and also when you get your Corpcode. It is free and you can get it here: IRS-EIN
