For Intrastate truck registration in Montana you will need to go to the County Treasurer Motor Vehicle Office. Here is a list of the County offices and their phone numbers Montana County Treasury offices

1) INSURANCE: You will have to provide proof of insurance to get your truck registered

2) HEAVY HIGHWAY VEHICLE USE TAX: If your vehicle's gross vehicle weight is over 55,000 lbs. you may be required to pay this tax. You will have to show a reciept that you paid this tax if you are registering your truck 60 days or more after you have bought this truck. 3) APPLICATION for MONTANA vehicle registration. You will also need to fill out this application to get your truck registered. VEHICLE REGISTRATION APPLICATION

4) ASSUMED NAME REGISTRATION. If the name on the account is going to be different than your legal name or you are registering as a corporation you will have to register that name with the Montana Secretary of State

    • 5) APPLICATION for MONTANA DOT NUMBER. You will need a Montana DOT number This number is different from the Federal Dot number, the number can only be obtained by calling this number and they can either Fax or mail you the number. 406-444-3300
