What you will need before you get your truck registered.

1) INSURANCE: Your insurance agent will have to file Form E to get your truck registered.

2) HEAVY HIGHWAY VEHICLE USE TAX: If your vehicle's gross vehicle weight is over 55,000 lbs. you may be required to pay this tax. You will have to show a reciept that you paid this tax if you are registering your truck 60 days or more after you have bought your truck. Form 2290 For more information Form 2290 INSTRUCTIONS

3)DOT NUMBER If your vehicle is over 26,000 you will need a DOTĀ number. You can go to this website to get the number, it's FREE! .DOT NUMBER

4) Kentucky Trucking Application. You will also need to fill out this application to get your truck registered.

5) ASSUMED NAME REGISTRATION. If the name on the account is going to be different than your legal name or you are registering as a corporation you will have to register that name. Corporations, a non-profits, LLCs and partnerships (limited, or limited liability) must register with the Kentucky Secretary of State. Sole proprietorships should file an assumed name certificate with the county clerk's office where the business is located.
