This website has NOT been created or endorsed by the State of ALASKA, the information below will be useful to many commercial truck owners but will not cover all of the situations encountered when registering as a motor carrier.
1) INSURANCE: You will have to provide proof of insurance to get your truck registered
2) HEAVY HIGHWAY VEHICLE USE TAX: If your vehicle's gross vehicle weight is over 55,000 lbs. you may be required to pay this tax. You will have to show a reciept that you have paid this tax if you are registering your truck 60 days or more after you have bought this truck. 3)DOT NUMBER If your vehicle is over 26,000 you will need a DOT number. You can go to this website to get the number and also more information. DOT NUMBER
4) APPLICATION for ALASKA vehicle registration. You will also need to fill out this application to get your truck registered. VEHICLE REGISTRATION APPLICATION
5) ASSUMED NAME REGISTRATION. If the name on the account is going to be different than your legal name or you are registering as a corporation you will have to register that name with the Corporations Section
6)WEIGHT SLIP for ALASKA REGISTRATION You will need to get a weight slip showing the light weight of your vehicle. This may be on your title or you can get one at a weight station.
